Leh Ladakh

Leh Ladakh Tourism

A land like no other with a superabundance of attractions to visit and fabulous landscapes, amazing people, and culture, Ladakh is truly a heaven on Earth.

Bounded by two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram, it lies athwart two other, the Ladakh range and the Zanskar range. Ladakh is mystical in all the spheres it covers, from nature, geography, sceneries to the modest cultures that it fosters. It is said that only in Ladakh can a man sitting in the sun with his feet in the shade suffer from sunstroke and frostbite at the same time.

For those of us living in the constant confusion about the difference between these twin locations, Leh-Ladakh, here is something that might help you. Formerly falling in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh was administered a union territory on 31st October 2019. Ladakh is divided into two districts: district Leh, and district Kargil. The former district has a popular town “Leh” and is a great tourist attraction because of its beautiful monasteries, picturesque locations, and interesting markets defining the culture of the place.

Ladakh is an adventure playground for climbing, jeeps tours, rafting, and high-altitude trekking. Note that Leh Ladakh is inaccessible by road outside the summer months. The road passes close altogether from around October to May, and the only way to reach Leh is by air.

The food you must try in Leh Ladakh:

  • Butter tea - It is prepared by adding butter and salt in the boiling milk. It can be savored with traditional Khambir bread

  • Chang - The native brew of Ladakh called Chang is prepared in a cylindrical porcelain pot by fermenting miller with yeast

  • Skyu - Prepared with kneaded wheat flour which is then molded into thumb-sized pieces and served with both veg and non-veg items

  • Thupka - Thukpa is a noodle soup which is made by mixing noodles with meat and vegetables, or just vegetables for the vegetarians

Nubra Valley

Nubra Valley is a few hours to the North of Leh; this is where the Shyok and Siachan rivers meet. The valley separates Ladakh from the Karakoram Ranges and the mighty Siachen Glacier. The valley is accessible through the world's highest motorable road: the Khardung La. Alongside the Nubra Valley lies the Sasser Pass and the famous Karakoram Pass which connects Nubra with Xinjiang, China. Panamik village is the last settlement in the northern end of the Nubra valley and is open to tourists. Nubra's stark landscape, jagged mountains, and altitude attract adventure tourists from across the globe.

Kargil

Kargil is a town in Kargil district and the joint capital of the Indian Union territory of Ladakh. Kargil is the second largest town in Ladakh after Leh. It is located 204 km to the east of Srinagar and 234 km west of Leh to the east. Kargil is the center of the Suru River valley, historically known as Purig

Pangong TSO

Pangong Tso or Pangong Lake is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m. It is 134 km long and extends from an Indian administered disputed region of Kashmir to the Tibetan Autonomous Region, China. Approximately 60% of the length of the lake lies within the Tibetan Autonomous Region
